As a new sponsor you'll be eager to get to know Alan, to discover his hobbies and interests and find out more about his family and the community where they live. Click the button below to learn more about Alan.
Alan might be the only person in his family who has a Compassion sponsor, but thanks to your support his whole family benefits.
Through your support Alan can access education. If there's a local school in his area, your sponsorship provides the uniforms and equipment he needs to enter the classroom. Where there isn’t a local school, the Compassion project will step in to fill the gap.
Together we’re providing Alan with nutritional support, health check-ups, educational opportunities, consistent care from loving team members from our local partners as well as the opportunity to hear about the love of Jesus. The local project provides tailored, context and age-specific activities designed to support Alan to thrive.
Meet Alan
No. We help those in greatest need, regardless of their religion. Parents or caregivers are made aware that Compassion is a Christian organisation and the children who attend the projects come from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds.
As part of our holistic approach to child development, our Child Sponsorship Programme complements and supplements the school systems where we work.
All the children in our Child Sponsorship Programme, regardless of country, are required to attend their normal school system. Through the contextual and localised application of our programme in each country we work in, we not only address the academic (cognitive) but also the socio-emotional and physical.
We provide an age-appropriate curriculum to our church partners to help minister to the children consistently. The curriculum is based on the outcomes we hope to see in the four facets of child development: body, mind, spirit and heart.
The child you sponsor attends a church-driven Compassion project. Project activities are usually held on Saturdays. You can find out more about how a Compassion Project works here.
Child protection is our highest priority.
Children living in poverty are among the most vulnerable in the world. Compassion and its board of directors, global partners and frontline church partners have established clear child protection policies designed to keep every child in our programmes safe.
Protecting the most vulnerable
All children should be known, loved and protected. We also believe that child protection is central to God’s heart.
Children in poverty are at a higher risk of abuse and trafficking. As an organisation working to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name, Compassion is serious about keeping children safe.
Our approach to child protection begins with preventing abuse whenever possible.
When there is reported child abuse, we intervene quickly. We seek to provide restoration and healing. We also work to empower children to be active in their own protection.
We enact our approach through the following:
As a sponsor, what’s my role in child protection?
You, the child you sponsor’s family, our church partners and our staff work together to form a safety net for your sponsored child. As a sponsor, you are part of Compassion and part of a movement to protect children. You belong to a community of child advocates.
If the child you sponsor says something in a letter that makes you feel abuse is happening or likely to happen, please contact us. The child you sponsor and each child we serve is surrounded by loving Christian adults trained in child protection. They know the warning signs of child abuse and know what to do when they see them.
